Welcome to the Master programme in Health Informatics

Modern health care is critically dependent on effective and efficient management of information and knowledge. A new 2-year international Master Programme in this exciting discipline - Health Informatics - will be started at Karolinska Institutet in September 2010. If you would like to take part in shaping the future of health care, this education is for you!

Nothing beats real life

Therefore, knowledge and skills obtained from courses in health informatics theory is put to work in a large number of case studies collected from collaborating partners in industry and academia. Project work will prepare you for participation in demanding projects. You will assume a work role as either clinical- or technical health informatician in these practical courses.

Study programme objectives

Whether you have a background in healthcare or in engineering/system’s development, this program will suit you. At the end of the program you are able to analyze healthcare information needs among health care professionals, patients as well as for management and industry. You will also be able to model, analyze, and refine information handling and clinical processes. On top of that you will have special knowledge and skills regarding the development and evaluation of clinical decision support systems.

Two tracks enable you to tailor your expertise towards either advanced methodology or towards a role as a leader and manager of change associated with the implementation of clinical information systems.

An important objective is that you should be able to apply a scientific approach in all areas of study, and to independently conduct scientific work of high quality.
